Hope Is Action! Contemporary Letterpress Print Exchange

Core member, Jessica Depp, is a contributing artist in this letterpress print exchange. She is graciously sharing selections of the portfolio of 60 original prints she received as a participating artist! Through July 1, 2021, you are invited to view these uplifting letterpress prints in the Gallery Hall, just outside our Suite #140 studio entrance, Monday – Friday between 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Action is an Open Heart (letterpress relief print) by Jessica Depp

“Hope is not an emotion, it’s an action.”

At the Ladies of Letterpress 2020 conference, Jenny Wilkson of Partners in Print (formerly the SVC Letterpress Program) reminded and inspired us that hope can be more than a feeling, it can be a call to action. By the same token, taking action—working with meaningful purpose—inspires hope. As artists and printers, let’s use the power of print to create and disperse messages of hope amongst each other and throughout our communities. Messages that will inspire action, new ways of thinking, and new ways of being.

The complete collection is on exhibit at The Printing Museum in the Lobby Gallery, Houston, Texas.

Twenty-Twenty was a year that presented us with opportunities for growth and a heighted awareness of our ability to effect both local and world-wide change through our actions. As printers, we have added the opportunity to be catalysts for change, inspiring courage and hopeful action, through the creative message in our prints. Many of you wrote us and shared how timely this print exchange was given what transpired in 2020. Our idea was that through our collective work as printers we could inspire each other to think, feel, and then act creatively to put those ideas into physical form. We hope that headed into 2021 and beyond, these prints inspire those who view them to be engaged citizens in the various spheres they inhabit.
