Judith Steele

A native of Ohio, Judith Steele has lived in Columbus, Ohio since 1987. She earned a BFA with honors from the Columbus College of Art and Design. Steele is a longtime member of the Cooperative.  Although working primarily as a relief printer, Steele actively experiments incorporating monoprint and collagraph plates into her processes.

Artist Statement

“The movements, colors, sounds and emotions that can be experienced while enveloped in the splendor of nature are powerful. I marvel at the rhythm and contours than can be revealed upon closer observation at a scale larger than life size. The deliberate process of creating a relief plate combined with the spontaneous results that occur during the printing process allow me to discover wonderful patterns and relationships and view nature anew.”

Steele began her career in St. Loius, Missouri as a designer of retail interiors and an architectural illustrator. She has been a freelance artist for the past 33 years broadening her scope of work to include graphic design, e-communications and creative services management.
