INGRAINED: Large Scale Woodcut Prints
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM
Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative marked their 20th Anniversary in September 2018. In celebration of this landmark anniversary, the non-profit organization contracted BIGINK.com to bring their mobile, large format 48” x 96” printing press, dubbed “The Big Tuna”, to establish a temporary print shop outside their Discovery District studio. Ten guest printmakers from across Ohio and twelve cooperative members committed to carving large woodcut blocks. On September 29 and 30, artists and the community of Columbus watched in anticipation as each woodblock was inked and run through the press. Clapping and cheering greeted the prints as they were pulled from the press and revealed to an enthusiastic crowd. “INGRAINED”, curated by Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative, showcases the diverse techniques, styles and subject matter of central Ohio’s contemporary printmakers.
