Diálogos’ exhibit: Latinx art more than craft and pop culture

The exhibition Diálogos will feature works by seven local Latinx artists. These artists represent Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and the United States. The artworks exhibited represent a variety of mediums, including installation, new media, printmaking, and painting. On display at the Cardinal Health Gallery at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens through November 2022. https://www.fpconservatory.org/exhibitions/dialogos/

Core member, Eliana Calle Saari, has several large woodcut relief prints in this exhibition!

“On the subject of journeys, it’s impossible to reflect on the large-scale woodcut prints of Eliana Calle Saari without considering migration, immigration and the arbitrariness of political borders. Her inclusion of the monarch butterfly in many of her prints suggests a natural and persistent link between the United States and Central America that exists beyond political boundaries. These iconic butterflies serve as a compelling reminder then of what could exist if we were more willing to listen and more open to dialogues.” by Jeff Regansburger

Each of the artists, through their work, explores their experiences of being a Latinx artist in the United States while addressing themes of dislocation, integration, cultural identity, and politics. Through their respective mediums, the artists answer these questions personally, challenging the audience to actively engage in dialogue via the bridge created by their work. It is the hope of these artists that the experience of Diálogos will lead to a deeper examination, exploration, and understanding of their role as Latinx artists in the United States.
