Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative was formed in 1996, and began renovating a 1904 building into a studio facility which opened its doors in September 1998. Workshops and classes began in October.    

Phoenix Rising has an eleven-year record of service to the art community. Phoenix Rising core members are all experienced artist printmakers and have taught innumerable classes in a variety of printmaking techniques to beginners and experienced artists.

Individuals, schools, and community groups have come to Phoenix to view live demonstrations, learn the history of printing and participate in classes, workshops and seminars to further the art of printmaking. PR artists participate in outreach programs throughout the central Ohio area.

As the only independent printmaking facility in Columbus, Phoenix has met the challenge of providing both a center for learning and a supportive studio environment for central Ohio artists. The studio facility is a resource for the art community with two large etching presses (a Takach and a Rembrandt), a Vandercook relief press and work space.

The combined skills and experience of its artist members constitutes an essential font of knowledge that continually benefits schools, universities, arts groups and organizations, as well as independent artists. Phoenix members have given their time and expertise, volunteering their services as instructors and mentors. They have collaborated with groups, such as OAC, OAEA, CCAD, Ohio Designer Craftsman, Ohio Dominican University, Columbus City Schools, and surrounding school districts, as well as the Columbus Museum of Art to enhance teaching and instruct individuals.

Phoenix Rising has always operated as a not-for-profit organization, however it is now beginning the process to officially become 501(c)(3).  It’s funded primarily by membership (3 levels) fees and classes. A small amount of additional support comes from grants. Once a year, Phoenix core members print our letterpress card pack; it is our main fundraising endeavor, other than classes and workshops.

Phoenix Rising members have proven that they are not only dedicated printmakers, but are also very committed to educating the public about fine art printmaking.

Exhibitions:
