Jennifer Cross

Artist Statement & Bio

Jennifer Lynn Cross has been exploring the possibilities of printmaking as a core member of Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative since 2010. As an apprentice at The Logan Elm Press and Paper Mill ( The Ohio State University) from 1985 to 1987, Jennifer studied the Arts of the Book with Director, Robert Tauber. This included letterpress printing, hand paper making, Persian Marbling and book binding as well as illustration and design of limited edition books. She was fortunate to also study woodcut relief printmaking with Dr. Sydney Chafetz, as an independent study student and at the Logan Elm Press.

Captivated by the fluid elegance of the Persian Ebru marbling tradition, Jennifer developed a series of monoprints over the next twenty years on hand made paper that has been exhibited locally and in Queensland, Australia. Combining marbling with illustration, she created portfolios for SCBWI’s (Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) juried artist portfolio exhibition in 2007 and 2009.

Jennifer is currently interested in woodcarving and printing on hand made and marbled papers. A full time art teacher, she is grateful to members of Phoenix Rising for teaching her about printmaking and artistic excellence.
