Judith’s Statement about this print:
“Women are a strong people. Women have had to be brave, persistent and daring to demand that their equality be written into law in these United States of America. Elizabeth Peratrovich was a courageous and wise woman. She would not allow herself or her native community to be treated as second-class citizens after the United States of America acquired the Alaska Territory! Her words are a beacon of truth! As the Raven brought the light to her People, she shined the light of truth upon lawmakers. Nearly two decades before the civil rights movement spread across the contiguous United States, she stood firm and demanded equality. 100 years after securing the right to vote, ALL women must remain constantly vigilant against overt and furtive efforts to oppress our rights of equality and equity.”
