1125 College Ave
Bexley, Ohio

Artist Statement:

My work is a record of current events that grab my heart. I cheer for the women in the Mideast countries who have the courage to protest for their rights in the public squares. My heart breaks for the soldiers who give their lives to fight wars, and for the parents who bury them. I get angry at corporations that allow oil to pollute our waters and kill birds, fish, plants and people. The horrors we perpetuate go on and on, I try to draw attention to them.
Joan Judith Tallan.

Horse Monotype

Cat Monotype

This class provides an easy way to transform a favorite photo into an original work of art. Bring an 8-1/2" x 11" color image that we will place under a plexiglass plate. After tracing a few outlines with a crayon, you simply fill in areas with watercolor, and then print the plate on our press. The vibrant colors and lacy white lines of your print may have a different character from your original image, but it's easy to capture the charm of a summer moment in a print you will enjoy making. The result is an exciting new piece, not a copy of your photo.

This simple method is ideal for first-time printers and anyone who wants a fast-track to creativity without the tedium of drawing. Great fun for kids! Bring a snack and a couple of letter-sized photos.

$35 per participant, includes all materials. Adults and children over 12 Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required. Space is limited.

Mission Statement

Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative is dedicated to promoting the art of printmaking by providing a well-equipped studio, educational opportunities and an environment of mutual support, camaraderie and inspiration for artists and students, and the community.

History

Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative was formed in 1996, and began renovating a 1904 building into a studio facility that opened its doors in September 1998. From its beginning the studio was equipped with a Takach etching press, a Vandercook relief press and materials to accommodate a variety of printmaking techniques. Later, Phoenix Rising acquired a second etching press and added additional mobile work tables so that more printmakers could work at the same time.

Phoenix Rising had always operated as a nonprofit organization, and in June of 2010 was officially granted 501(c)(3)status. The cooperative moved to its present larger venue in December 2011. The current facility is on the ground floor of a vintage factory with a full wall of north facing windows and is ADA compliant.

Phoenix Rising's artist members offer a variety of workshops and classes that highlight their particular skills and guest artists are invited to give special presentations. The artists of Phoenix Rising provide outreach programs demonstrating and teaching printmaking techniques in a variety of venues - public and private schools, art groups, colleges, artist's residencies, in-service workshops, etc.
