With nature being the foundation of our inspiration, we reflected upon these words:

“When we tug at a single thing in nature, we find it attached to the rest of the world.”  John Muir

“Were I called on to define, very briefly, the term art, I should call it the reproduction of what the senses perceive in nature through the veil of the mist.”  Edgar Allen Poe

“Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain.”  Henry David Thoreau

Designs and patterns found in nature, especially our landscapes, intrigue me.
I often observe how we impose ourselves on the environment creating change. The contour lines of topography maps depicting the “lay of the land” provide a setting for my relief, intaglio and monotype print images.

I have a love for the twin maple seeds that are produced in abundance from the Norway maple tree in my yard.  Samara is the scientific term for a “twin seed”.
I marvel at the rhythm and contours than can be revealed upon closer observation at a scale larger than life size. I continue to discover these now familiar patterns and shapes across all forms of nature. The deliberate processes of creating a relief plate combined with the spontaneous results that occur on press during printing allow me to explore wonderful relationships and view nature anew.
