Joan Tallan

Bio

My recent work starts with a series of political prints responding to the presidency of George W. Bush. Weapons, soldiers and destruction make up the imagery.  As a needed change of thought pattern I worked on a set of prints that portray the tranquility, versus the adventure of the beach in Hawaii. The next series  are the “Conflict and Courage” images which were made in tribute to the brave women who protested in Tahir Square. The dynamic prints are woodcuts with  accents of “Chine Colle” and/or stenciled color. I have recently finished a group of images whose impetus was our many visits to the Ohio State Fair. They are filled with the rich variety of images that make up the visual activity of the Fair.
Each group of prints express my reaction to the world around me. Sometimes terrible, and at other times glorious, life continues on,  as an artist printmaker I try to document what I experience.
